Man Jailed For 18 Years After Man In His 70s Beaten And Robbed

Published on Wednesday 9 April 2025

A man has been jailed for 18 years after leaving a pensioner in a coma after brutally assaulting him, stealing his bank cards and then setting his house on fire.

The victim was attacked at his home in Gordon Road, Swanwick, by Rostislav Godla on Saturday June 8, 2024.

Godla tied his victim to a chair and armed with a knife, demanded to know his pin numbers for his bank cards while threatening to stab him to death.

When they were handed over Godla then set the house alight – with his victim still tied to the chair by his arms, legs, and neck.
Godla then used the cards to spend £1,600 in JD Sports in Derby.

The 45-year-old admitted wounding his victim with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, arson being reckless as whether life was endangered, robbery, false imprisonment, and two counts of fraud.

Today (4 April) at Derby Crown Court Godla, of no-fixed address, was jailed for 18 years, and was also handed a five-year extended licence.
