Strutt's North Mill was the first ‘fire-proof’, water-powered cotton spinning mill in the world.
When built by William Strutt in 1804 it was technologically the most advanced building and the forerunner of today’s skyscrapers.
Now at the heart of Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site its award winning exhibits show spinning history and machinery, framework knitting, the finest Brettle’s cotton and silk hosiery collection, chevening and nail-making.
Follow the developments of the Industrial Revolution through original and replica machinery and see the legacy of the Strutt Family to Belper.
The renowned Belper River Gardens and famous Strutt housing are nearby.
Tourist Information Point and free car park.
