Derbyshire Bus Travel Discount Scheme Extended To December 2025

Published on Saturday 22 March 2025

Derbyshire County Council is extending its discounted bus travel scheme, which offers an up to 20% discount on commuter bus tickets, to 31st December 2025.

Derbyshire County Council is extending its discounted bus travel scheme, which offers an up to 20% discount on commuter bus tickets, to 31st December 2025.

Initially set to end on 31st March 2025, the scheme was launched as part of Derbyshire County Council’s Bus Service Improvement Plan, which saw the government award £47m to deliver a range of improvements to bus transport, including enhanced bus services, ticketing and bus priority measures.

The Derbyshire scheme, which includes the city of Derby area, allows discounted travel for commuters with the following bus operators:

•    Arriva
•    Diamond Bus
•    High Peak
•    Stagecoach
•    trentbarton

Each operator has its own existing discount, which is then matched by funding from Derbyshire County Council. The tickets are provided directly to the customer from the bus operator.

Announcing the extension of the scheme, Derbyshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Highways Assets and Transport, Councillor Charlotte Cupit, said:

“We want to support working people with choosing the bus to get to work. This scheme demonstrates a positive partnership with local bus operators to help people get around and get to work across Derbyshire, and we hope by extending this scheme even more people will be able to benefit.”

Ross Hithcock, Head of Commercial, at trentbarton said:

““We are delighted to announce that trentbarton has successfully partnered with Derbyshire County Council and Travel Derbyshire to extend the Match Discounting Scheme until December 31, 2025. This collaboration not only strengthens our relationship with these esteemed organisations but also underpins our commitment to supporting local businesses and promoting tourism in Derbyshire.

The extension of the Match Discounting Scheme offers a remarkable opportunity to drive engagement and participation among local businesses. By providing financial incentives, we aim to encourage more businesses to join the scheme, thereby boosting the local economy and enhancing the visitor experience in Derbyshire. We believe that our combined efforts will generate significant positive outcomes for all stakeholders involved.”

Over the course of this year, responsibilities for delivering the scheme will move from Derbyshire County Council to East Midlands Mayoral Combined Authority.
