Belper's Banking Hub set to open this week

Published on Wednesday 31 January 2024

Cash Access UK, the organisation set up to protect nationwide access to cash, has confirmed today that the Banking Hub in Belper will be opening at 9am on Friday 2nd February at 46-48 King Street. It will be officially opened by Pauline Latham, MP for Mid Derbyshire.

The recently opened Banking Hub at Clay Cross

The Hub offers a counter service operated by the Post Office, where customers of all major banks and building societies can carry out regular cash transactions, Monday to Friday. It also offers a Community Banker service where customers can talk to their own bank about more complicated issues on the day their bank is in the Hub. Community Bankers will work on rotation, with a different bank available on each day of the week:

Monday: Barclays
Tuesday: NatWest
Wednesday: HSBC
Thursday: Lloyds
Friday: Santander

The Hub was recommended by LINK, the UK’s cash access and ATM network, following the announcement of the final bank branch closure in the town.

Today’s news follows the opening of the Clay Cross Hub at the end of 2023. A Hub in Shirebrook was also recommended last year and Cash Access UK is currently working to bring a Hub to this community.

Gareth Oakley, CEO at Cash Access UK: “We are happy to announce the opening of our newest Banking Hub in Derbyshire, with more to come in 2024. I’m pleased that Belper’s residents and local businesses can benefit from in-person banking services again.”

Pauline Latham, MP for Mid Derbyshire: “I am delighted that Belper will have its access to cash services restored thanks to this new Banking Hub. My survey last year showed a real appetite for keeping in-person services in place, and Cash Access UK has answered our call. Belper’s hub will be advantageous for all those who prefer to bank in-person, and will also protect our environment by helping to reduce unnecessary car journey.”

Local resident, Mike Greatbatch: "This is a great boost for Belper's high street and our community. It's really going to help people who rely on cash and help others maintain independence for longer. Moreover we can all get face to face banking advice from real people at our new Banking Hub in Belper. Many thanks to Cash Access UK".
