Red Sea play extremely chilled, self-penned jazz, originally inspired by the intense stillness and beauty of the Sinai Desert and the Red Sea. Think Billie Holiday meets Norah Jones in a Bedouin Tent on the sun-drenched shores of the Red Sea. Combining jazz with elements of western swing, folk, reggae and funk they have created a unique hybrid sound. Deeply soulful and descriptive, and heavily influenced by the 1930’s most lyrical proponents of jazz, their music explores the relationships between people and the natural world, place and psyche.
Drawing inspiration from many of Nottingham & the Midlands’ gemlike green spaces, the bands’ lyrics are laced with natural images & descriptions that become metaphors for human life and experience.
Red Sea’s musicians are some of Nottingham’s finest jazz musicians with years of performing experience. With improvisation a significant feature of the music, these highly responsive and flexible musicians create unique performances for each show.
With light, humorous introductions to each song, Red Sea invites audiences to join them in a musical exploration of the beauty of nature and the themes underlying their music.
Sit back, relax and join them on a musical exploration of the beauty of nature. Take a fresh look at the natural world on your doorstep and see the extraordinary, hidden in plain sight.
'A perfect song for today like today' Verity Cowley BBC Radio Nottingham 'A unique blend of chilled electric guitars, female vocals and jazz of past, present and future.' NUSIC 'Beautiful, beautiful' Arun Verma BBC Radio Nottingham
