The Midland Railway - Butterley is open every day of the year except Christmas Day and Boxing Day.
On running days facilities and attractions are available from 30 minutes before the first train leaves Butterley. On non-running days the Matthew Kirtley Building (Railway Museum), ‘West Shed Experience’, Demonstration Signal Box and Victorian Railwayman's Church are available and these are open from 10.00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m.
Motive power will be selected from our collection of heritage steam and diesel locomotives and DMUs locomotives (with, for some events, appearances by visiting locos).

Midland Railway - Butterley features 3.5 miles of line, Butterley Station, which is the main entrance and a large museum complex at Swanwick Junction.
We operate standard and narrow gauge railways with both steam and diesel passenger trains. Our Swanwick Junction Complex has a museum focused on the Midland Railway and Midland Railway buildings as well as a large collection of steam and diesel locomotives.

The cost of train rides depends on the event being run and varies from £9.50 to £15.00 per adult (discounts are available for the over 60s) and from £4.95 to £7.50 per child (age 5 to 16). Family tickets (2 adults and 3 children) are available from £23.00 to £37.50.
Tickets are valid all day (except for Santa Specials). There is a supplement of £1.00 (adult) and 50p (child) for 1st Class travel (when available).
