Derbyshire County Council is funding a new Belper based recovery space to give people  a place to get additional help and support.

Evidence shows that people who are taking part in drug and alcohol treatment are more likely to succeed if they can access support alongside treatment.

Community Recovery Spaces are an evidence-based and effective way of supporting individuals at all stages of their recovery journey.

These spaces act as community hubs where people in recovery can come together and support each other. They help to connecting people, reduce stigma and help to make recovery visible.

Derbyshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Health and Communities, Councillor Carol Hart said: “Evidence shows that people undergoing recovery from addiction can really benefit from additional health and wellbeing support.

“We are pleased to be funding the Belper Community Recovery Space as it provides a safe, welcoming place for people to come together, share their experiences and learn from each other.”

The county council has funded £40,000 towards the Belper pilot project, which will be delivered by The Kelsey family CIC.

The project aims to make recovery visible within local communities, support individuals into and through recovery, provide purposeful activity and reduce isolation by building a mutually supportive community of people with shared experience.

Steph Kelsey from The Kelsey Family CIC said: “Embarking on our own journey of recovery as a family we felt lonely, unsure, and isolated. The Kelsey family CIC was set up to ensure no other family that had decided to recover together felt the same.

“We had a vision to create a safe and open space where everybody affected by substance misuse felt heard.”

The Belper Community Recovery Space can be found in the 1924 Arcade, Belper and is open between 9.30am and 12.30pm on Mondays and Fridays, 12.30pm and 3.30pm on Wednesdays, and Saturdays between 3pm and 6pm.

It is open to anyone but under 18’s need to be accompanied by an adult.

There will be a variety of activities available including training and employment advice, family activities, wellbeing sessions and more.

Attendees will be able to find out more about health and wellbeing services local to them, improve their physical and mental health and learn more about treatment opportunities and other recovery projects.

For more information including a full timetable of community space events, how to hire the space and how to get involved call 07733 335797 or email: Kffcic@gmail.comvisit
