Alfreton care home honoured with prestigious End-of-Life Care award

Published on Thursday 8 February 2024

The Meadows care home, a leading provider of compassionate and person-centred care, is proud to announce that it has been awarded the prestigious Derbyshire End-of-Life Quality Award.

This accolade is a testament to The Meadows’ dedication to enhancing the quality of life for individuals in their final stages. This distinguished award is given to care homes that exhibit exceptional standards in palliative and end-of-life care and acknowledge the profound impact it has on the lives of residents and their families.

Presented by Jane Carr, Macmillan End Of Life Facilitator, this prestigious award is one to add to the home’s long list of accolades, including the Quality Premium Award, Quality Premium Dementia Award and The Dignity Award from Derbyshire County Council.

The home’s End of Life Care Champions, Moira Cantrill and Rachel Cartledge said, “We are so proud to receive this award. We believe that every individual deserves the highest quality of care and dignity in their final days. Giving gold-standard end-of-life care is one of the most important things we do for residents and their families, so we are extremely grateful for the recognition.”

The Meadows is also one of the first care homes in the UK to adopt the Montessori approach to dementia care, which has proven to be very successful in Australia and Canada. It has been recently renovated and carefully designed by Milford Care’s Montessori specialists with the best practices in care, food and nutrition, design and methods to engage residents in activities. This helps residents find purpose in their day, feel a part of their community and be fulfilled.

The Meadows is a part of the Milford Care group. The group have six care homes across Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire, two of which are rated ‘Outstanding’ by CQC. Spencer Grove in Belper (Outstanding), Ashbourne Lodge in Ashbourne (Outstanding), Milford House in Duffield (Good), The Meadows in Alfreton (Good) are all based within the Derbyshire area and Hazelgrove in Hucknall (Good), Nottinghamshire and Buddleia House (Outstanding + Good). All the homes boast high social engagement, as well as homely surroundings and an appealing selection of facilities suitable for every resident. They also specialise in residential care, nursing care, palliative care, dementia care, respite and day care.
