Charities Benefit from Fund Honouring Belper Woman
Local Belper and Duffield charities have received financial grants totalling £700 from GAILS FUND, administered by Belper and Duffield Rotary.
Rotary President Diane Smiles said, “Rotary is very, very, proud to make awards to local charities on behalf of the private, GAILS FUND. Gail passed away in February last year from ovarian cancer and this fund really does reflect Gails’ life - giving service to others through Rotary - especially young people.”
David Ashley, who along with daughters Sarah and Nicola set up the fund following Gails death said’ “My daughters and I feel this is a positive way of remembering Gail. We advertise the Fund in March and April each year inviting applications from local organisations. The only condition is that projects must show ‘Care, Compassion and Generosity of Spirit’ – qualities that were ever present in Gail.”
Dave then went on to introduce each organisation and asked them to say a few words about benefits of the grant. The groups and representatives are:
2nd Belper Guides (Donna Roberts)
The Duffield Charity (Marion Taulbut)
Amber Valley District Girlguiding (Emma Illsley)
Derbyshire Carers Assoc Belper (Joanne Askew & Sharon Jones)
Kilburn Monday Club (Kath Lamb & Carol Steedman)
Derbyshire Toy Library - Belper (Ann-Marie McMillan – could not be present and presentation arranged for later)
After giving a short presentation on their group and benefits of the grant each received a certificate of grant by Gails Fund Rotary regional Governor, Richard Vergette. President Diane said, “I do think it’s great for Rotary and groups that help people to step outside their own little bubble every now and again to hear what others in the locality are doing.
