Police issue appeal and offer advice following burglaries in the Duffield area
Police in the Duffield and Quarndon area are appealing for information and urging people to step up security following a number of burglaries in the area.
During the past week three homes, two in Duffield and one in Quarndon, and two sheds in Duffield have been targeted.
The most recent incident happened sometime between 8pm and 8.30pm on Wednesday, October 7 at a house on Woodlands Lane, Quarndon.
It is believed the offenders broke into the property through a door but were disturbed by the alarm.
A house was also broken into on Lime Avenue, Duffield sometime between Wednesday, October 3 and Sunday, October 4, and a house on Avenue Road, Duffield was broken into sometime between Wednesday, September 30 and Thursday, October 1.
It is not thought that anything was stolen during these incidents.
Two sheds at properties on Derby Road, Duffield were also targeted and a strimmer was stolen from one of the sheds.
Sgt. Neil Milner, of the local Safer Neighbourhood policing team said: “Police patrols are being increased in the area, and enquiries are currently ongoing to catch those responsible, but I would also urge residents to take steps to help reduce the risk of having their home or shed targeted.”
People are advised to:
- Make sure windows and doors and locked when you leave the house or go to bed;
- Remove valuables, house and car keys from view of windows and do not leave them in locks overnight;
- Leave a light on if you are going out after dark or consider using timers and ‘dusk till dawn bulbs’;
- Ensure that sheds, garages and outbuilding are properly secure with quality locks;
- Consider covering the inside of shed windows to prevent passers-by looking in;
- Security mark valuables such as tools and bikes to help deter thieves.
Sgt. Milner added: “If you see anyone acting suspiciously in your neighbourhood, or have any information about these incidents, please let us know.”
Anyone with information should contact Derbyshire police on 101, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
