Made in Dagenham. Borrowed from Ambergate
Great British Car Journey is helping bring the true story of a strike by 187 upholstery machinists at Ford's Dagenham plant in 1968 to life at Repton 400 Hall Theatre.
The cast of Made in Dagenham at Great British Car Journey in Ambergate.
Great British Car Club member Julie Dyg, who is also head of props for the forthcoming Made in Dagenham production, knew just where to come to ensure the show delivered an authentic 1968 experience.
The classic car visitor attraction in Ambergate has lent an original Ford Cortina steering wheel and wheel trims, both of which rolled off the Dagenham car plant in the 1960s, to Good Companions Musical Theatre Production for its staging of the famous Made in Dagenham story.
To add further authenticity to the production, Great British Car Journey and its collection of classic Fords from the era have also been used as the setting for promotional photos of the show.
The story was immortalised in the hit 2010 film Made in Dagenham, which was later transformed into a hit West End show in 2014.
Delighted to support the production, Richard Usher, CEO of Great British Car Journey, said: “Seeing the cast in their 1960s outfits alongside our Ford cars in the attraction was amazing and make it feel just like yesterday that these wonderful cars were virtually on every driveway and street in the UK. That’s certainly not the case now but I am looking forward to being transported back to the era when I watch the show myself.
“It’s wonderful that Great British Car Journey has been able to contribute a little bit of authenticity to the production.”
Made in Dagenham runs from 5 – 9 April at Repton 400 Hall Theatre in Repton. Purchase tickets at https://www.ticketsource.co.uk/whats-on/derby/repton-400-hall-theatre/made-in-dagenham/e-veyjej
