Police appeal after badger is found shot in Turnditch
Police are appealing for information after a badger was found shot dead in the Ashbourne area.
Officers were called after a badger was discovered at the roadside of Hillcliff Lane in Turnditch with bullet wounds on Monday, March 23.
Badgers have full protection under the Protection of Badgers Act, which makes it an offence to intentionally capture, kill or injure a badger, or interfere with badger setts.
Wildlife and Countryside Officer, John Bointon, said: “This is a callous act and I would urge anyone with any information to contact us.
“We’re working to carry out intensive investigations, including forensic tests on the bullet, in a bid to bring those responsible to justice.”
Witnesses or anyone with information should call Derbyshire police on 101, quoting incident number 501 of 23/03/2015. Alternatively, you can call Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
Additionally, anyone who witnesses or has any other information relating to any form of wildlife crime, including badger incidents, should contact police immediately.
