Partnership to improve Marehay Recreation Ground
A partnership comprising of The Marehay Community Trust (MCT), Amber Valley Borough Council and Groundwork is leading in the improvement ofMarehay Recreation Ground.
The Ground will benefit from upgrading of the play equipment, re-levelling of the football pitch, introduction of a new footpath, provision of benches and planting, as well as improvements to the access to the site, with a total value of over £57,000.
The scheme has received funding of over £50,000 from the Biffa Award Landfill Communities Fund with the balance being provided by Amber Valley Borough Council.
The project has been designed by Groundwork Creswell Ashfield and Mansfield. Work on site will commence in the early spring and is due to be completed by the summer of 2015.
Chris Ward, Chair of the Marehay Community Trust’s response to the successful bid to Biffa Award commented: “It gives me great pleasure to hear that the bid to Biffa Award for funding the project to redevelop Marehay Recreation Park has finally been approved. This is a project that the Trust, together with its key partners at Amber Valley Borough Council and Groundwork, have been working on for nearly three years and to see it come to fruition will be simply fabulous.”
Cllr John McCabe Amber Valley Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Environment, commented: “I am extremely pleased that the Borough Council could contribute to this project by commissioning Groundwork to work in partnership to develop the proposals and submit funding bids.”
Cllr Lyndsay Cox, Ward Member also added: “I recognise the importance of supporting and promoting physical activity, particularly in children, when this can have lasting effects in terms of health and well-being. Play also contributes to the development of a child and therefore I warmly welcome the improvements that will take place.”
