Primary School Gets New Classroom
A new classroom has been opened at a Derbyshire primary school by Derbyshire County Council’s Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, Kevin Gillott.
Growing pupil numbers meant Horsley Primary School needed the new classroom, which has been paid for from the school’s budget and the school’s parent, teacher and friends association.
It raised the money to help pay for the project through a sponsored brick scheme and other fundraising events.
Parents and local companies also donated architectural services and project management expertise as well as parts and labour to ensure the build came in within budget.
Councillor Gillott said: “It’s important that children have the space to learn in a positive environment and this new classroom will make a real difference to pupils and teachers at the school.
“It’s great to see the community pulling together to make the new building a reality”.
Horsley Primary School headteacher, Paul Leeson said: “I’m delighted about the way the community – including local businesses – have come together to make this new classroom possible.
“We’ve had a huge input from a lot of significant local companies and also great support from the school governors.
“The school has needed this extra space for a long time so it’s great that it’s now benefiting pupils and staff and will do so for many years to come”.
