Riddings Cricket Club secures Community Building Grant

Published on Tuesday 26 November 2013

Riddings Cricket Club is set to make improvements to their pavilion and grounds thanks to funding from Derbyshire County Council.

The club has secured a Community Building Grant from DCC for £51,707 to improve the club's social area and changing facilities and provide storage for sports equipment.

DCC launched the £1m fund in 2012, offering voluntary and community organisations one-off capital grants of between £10,000 and £250,000 for building projects or permanent equipment such as play, sports or social facilities which residents will be able use for at least 10 years.

Club Chairman, David North said:

"The grant we've received from Derbyshire County Council is really important. We wanted the pavilion to become a sports venue, rather than solely a cricket venue.

We also wanted to increase the amount of people using the venue, particularly children and to make the ground accessible all year round and this funding means we can do just that."

DCC Deputy Cabinet Member, Health and Communities, Paul Smith said:

"There are lots of clubs, groups and organisations throughout Derbyshire that do great work. It's great to be able to help them continue and even improve the contribution they give to their community.
