75-year-old heritage narrow boat. Originally an open hold cargo boat, now converted to 45-seater passenger trip boat. Birdswood cruises on the tranquil, scenic and wildlife-rich Cromford Canal from Cromford Wharf, Mill Lane, DE4 3RQ (just opposite Arkwright's Mills).
Public trip schedule mid-March to end April 2014: every Wednesday 10:30 and 14:00; Saturday 10:30 and 14:00; Sunday 12:00. Fares from £5 return adult, £4 senior, £2.50 child (prices vary according to trip type). Babies and toddlers travel for free.
Trips run from Cromford Wharf to either High Peak Junction or Leawood Pump House, and return. Average trip duration is 2 hours return. Some trips allow single fares, enabling you to walk back from Leawood Pump House along the level, well surfaced towpath (about 1.5 miles).
Toilet and light refreshments on board. We regret there is no access for non-ambulant persons due to steep steps into boat. Space to stow buggies etc. Well-behaved dogs welcome.
