We support the improvement and management of Belper Parks Local Nature Reserve and associated sites within Duffield Frith. We have established a seven acre wildflower meadow in the last few years and hope to help more of the site become wildflower meadow by encouraging natural regeneration of latent wildflower seed.
The site was once part of Duffield Frith and was used as deer park in the 12th to 16th Centuries. Some of the original dry stone walls are still standing and mark the boundaries of the deer park. The site is one of the things that makes Belper unique. It has a 50 acre Local Nature Reserve, situated in the middle of a town and more than seven acres of wildflowers. 22 species of butterfly can be seen in the Parks, two of them are recent additions, the Essex Skipper and the Small Heath.
